Situated down a dirt road that runs parallel to the ocean, the cottage, of ‘salt box’ design (with cathedral ceiling), was formerly a carriage house. It is adjacent to the house of John Young Nucomb, which Thoreau described as the house of the Wellfleet oysterman in Cape Cod. A typical New England breezeway connects the Salt Box with the main house, with two doors between to ensure privacy. There is beach access on Williams Pond, and you can canoe over to the sluice between Higgins and Gull ponds. It’s about a 15-minute walk through the woods and over the dunes to the ocean. It’s a bird-watcher’s Paradise. Canoe and row boat provided.

The Salt Box has a dining area, kitchenette, and a living area with fireplace. There is one double bedroom, and an open sleeping loft (containing one double bed and one single). The cottage is fully equipped; linens provided. There is one full bath and an outside shower, and a brick patio with a charcoal grill and table and chairs.
