Sea Chest Gift Shop, Rt. 28, West Yarmouth
Years ago, the Sea Chest Gift Shop was a Cape Cod landmark. The building is still there and is easy to spot. It is the only one around that is shaped like a pirate’s treasure chest. The treasure chest building has seen many different businesses come and go since then.
The intrinsic beauty, superlative color harmony, complicated design and serviceability of sea shells constitute ,one of the wonders of our universe. And here, just a short ride from Hyannis you will find shells of all sizes, colors, and shapes.
Their shell jewelry is one of the loveliest collections on the Cape and amateur artisans will find instructions, tools, packaged shells and all the articles necessary to make their own jewelry or to design handbags, cigarette boxes and whatever you may fancy.
As well as the extensive display of marine life you will find unusual forms of driftwood and Florida knees molded into lamps, Everyone will be interested in Mr. Huntoon’s collection of handmade reproduction tinware used by the early settlers. So handsome are these in any home.
Also in another part of the shop is a wonderful selection of gifts and toys, plus souvenirs. And of course their collectors shells are of the rarest and loveliest anywhere around. Be sure to stop at the Sea Chest Gift Shop before leaving the Cape—it is one place which should not be missed.
