Sandwich Has Oldest House
Sandwich is a lovely Cape town, with shaded streets and well kept homes. Be certain and observe the view of the church spires as you pass along Route 6A and better yet take the bypass into the center of the town and see the beautiful architecture of the old churches.
Sandwich also lays claim to having the oldest house on the Cape. This is the Hoxie house, built, so it is said, in 1637. This is a fine example of saltbox roof, has thick hand-hewed timbers and looks as mellow as an old apple tree. Sandwich was once a bustling village with its chief industry being that of glass making from whence has come the famous Sandwich glass so sought after by collectors.
The Daniel Webster Inn, the haunt of the famous Daniel Webster, when he went fishing and hunting on Cape Cod, is also in Sandwich.
