Rockwell Kent and the Cape Cinema Mural
Dennis’ Cape Cinema is an Art Deco jewel, nested inside a reserved New England facade.
The Cape Cinema’s Mural, dating from 1930, is based on drawings by Rockwell Kent. Kent is most famous for his illustrations of Melville’s Moby Dick. He was also a landscape painter, author, and adventurer.
The vast ceiling depicts constellations and pairs of lovers dancing. The outside of the cinema is white clapboard and church-like, so different from the exuberant Art Deco interior.
