Cape Cod Seasports
Cape Cod might have been created especially for those who feel that life is incomplete without the salt tang of sea, wind, the glint of sun on white caps, the kick of tiller, the soothing warmth of crescent beach.
If you are one of these, choose a farmhouse above a rocky headland, a cottage in a smart yachting center, or a captain’s mansion in a hamlet romantic with crowding masts, seines, lobster pots, and all the bleached gear of those who go down to the sea in ships. At your elbow stood the spirits of Captains Courageous, the pursurers of Moby Dick. In paneled parlors rich with the spoils of the China Clippers you will still hear tales of Cape Horn and Java Head.
You have measured time by the ebb and flood of tides, and perhaps picked up a sea going vocabulary from the refreshing environment around you. Your activities in maritime Cape Cod are as various as the aspects of its long coastline.
You may have idled beneath a bright umbrella on a white beach while the youngsters explore the mysteries of clamming, or you may have battled the giant tuna or fighting bluefish from an offshore cruiser. You have probably known the thrill that comes when you crowd on sail in a spanking breeze, the exultation of driving a spray-drenched speedboat over a choppy sea. There have been community clambakes on the mainland and family picnics on the islands; succulent lobsters live-broiled over a fire of driftwood, clams steamed in salty rockweed, a chowder from the haddock caught on your own hook.
