A History of the Cape
Among the personages of Cape Cod there are those who will always be remembered for their deeds. With such a record for enterprise, adventure, patriotism and identification with great movements of the age as the Cape presents, it would be strange if there were not one of her sons who should attempt to do her honor.
In 1858, Rev. Frederick Freeman, of Sandwich, began the publication of a History of Cape Cod. The book was complete in two volumes.
His difficulties were numerous; he had nothing by way of previous aid; he was justly emulous of the fame of his ancestors; and being himself a minister of the Church of England, it seemed to some that he stinted the justice due to the Puritan and Pilgrim elements. Despite the drawbacks, his will always be the first filial attempt of any Cape Cod man to do justice to his land.
